20 Jun Long Trail Blazers
In August, two longtime friends Christian Jevne and Ted Kleber will walk the Long Trail in support of Friendship Home. Jevne, who is an active volunteer at Friendshp Home is the son of one of our Board members Paul Jevne.
The Long Trail
In 1909, James P. Taylor conceived of the idea of a long trail running along the ridges of the spine of the Green Mountains from the Massachusetts line to the Canadian border. Taylor created the Green Mountain Club and began work cutting the trail, with just twenty-three members and $100 in the bank.
Now, every year thousands of hikers travel the 445 miles of the Long Trail system, known from its beginning as “a footpath in the wilderness.”
Our Friendship Home members will closely follow Christian and Ted and learn about survival in the wild as well as Green Mountain plant and wildlife.
- We have created the Trail Blazers team fundraising page to accept and tally all donations to the team. Proceeds will benefit our social recreational programs. Christian and Ted’s goal is to raise $7,500.
- We will track Christian and Ted by GPS and pin current location on the trail map.
- We will soon offer a page to sponsor the Trail Blazers and deliver care packages to re-supply towns along their trek.
- Christian and Ted will send along images from the Long Trail that we will upload to the gallery linked above.
